new week and I'm already feeling way better mentally. I feel much more at home and less exhausted. this week was all about implementing routines, getting along in the city and meeting new people. I got to meet a few new people at the introductions days at uni but also at an event organised by a student organisation. I love how my routines give me stability and something to hold on to. even though I feel much better, the many new impressions make me still very tired, so this week I also slept a lot. I am facetiming my boyfriend, friends and family almost every day which gives me a lot of energy and joy.
my bike
as many of you know, denmark is popular for their cycling infrastrucure. the people here bike anywhere no matter the weather. the cycling infrastructure is so good here that even at roundabouts there's bike lanes (!) a bike here is a must! so on tuesday I went to go look at a bike from a second hand seller. it's a bike with seven gears and a back pedal break. since I really needed a bike, so I could bike to uni, I just bought it immediately and paid 850 DKK, which is about CHF 110.
always biking
the danes
let me tell you about everything that I have found out so far about danish people. some of the things really impress me :)
everyone is so friendly and polite here. no matter if it's at the restaurant or in a clothing store or at the museum, people here really take their time for you and are very very polite.
they really REALLY drink a lot of alcohol. mostly beer. and when I say that I mean it. I know a lot of people in Switzerland who, in my eyes, drink a lot. but nothing compares to this. alcohol is also very cheap so I guess beer is like water here.
the language is very hard to understand and learn. when I first came here I thought I could maybe understand a few words when I know the context but there's no chance. most of the words' pronounciations are not even close to their spelling. for example the D and the G are pronounced very differently. almost as if you had a hot potato in your mouth :)) for me it is also hard to tell when a word stops and when a new one begins because they somehow connect all the words together when speaking.
they are very reserved people I would say. it is kinda difficult to make friends with locals. unless they drink alcohol then they are more open and talkative.
food of the week
I have to mention the nice selection of foods they have in supermarkets here. I always go grocery shopping at føtex which is a bit more expensive than other stores but compared to Switzerland still on the cheaper side. it is so fun to go grocery shopping because everytime I go there I find new exciting things to try. for example these frozen chili cheddar bagels which I topped with herb cream cheese and cooked zucchetti seasoned with chili flakes. it was definitely the best thing I ate this week and I am going to make this my go-to hihi
semesterstartsfesten
so I was told that every uni here organizes a festival for their students to celebrate the start of the semester. and ours took place this weekend at our campus. first of all, the festival was huge! I was pleasantly surprised about the whole situation. there were many food trucks, bars, two stages where mostly danish artist performed, a silent disco and many other things. it seemed like everyone was attending this festival so it really is a thing. the vibes were very good and danish music is actually quite nice! the drinks were very cheap (cocktail in the picture was CHF 5.30) and the food was yum! the only thing with festivals is that even at home I don't see what's going on on the stage because I just don't have the height for that. now imagine how it was at this festival when in Denmark the average height is 1.80 cm and you are always surrounded by at least 4 guys that are over 2 meters. hihi
place of my dreams
highlight of the week
my highlight of the week was when I walked into this tea store. I think people can not imagine the joy I feel when I enter a tea store. it is one of my favorite places to be hihi. so we found this store by coincidence and I was blown away. everything is just so beautiful, the colors, the range of tea they offered and the tea room where you can go and have tea time. the store is called A. C. Perch's Thehandel and it's the official tea supplier of the Danish Royal Family. of course I had to buy some tea because again one of my favorite things to do!!! first thing I bought was Genmaicha. this is green tea with roasted rice. the rice brings out a very nutty flavor. second thing I got was Sencha, which is also Japanese green tea. and then I had to get these cute containers to store the tea. maybe this sounds weird but buying tea is such an experience for me and my whole body is filled with joy:) this place really is fabulous and I will definitely be back for tea time and more tea!!
tusind tak! by the way the blouse from last week was successfully purchased! :)
